Get Ready for Classic Car Show Season: What to Bring to a Car Show

Classic car shows are an American staple. In fact, millions of people attend at least one show per year. They’re one of the most enjoyable ways to spend a summer afternoon, especially if you have a classic car of your own to showcase (bonus points for a Corvette, obviously).

However, even if you’ve been in the classic car world for years, packing for one is always a little overwhelming. Not only are there a bunch of things to remember for your car, but there are also things you need to keep yourself happy and comfortable throughout the day.

To help you have a good time and make the most of any shows you attend this summer, we’ve created a checklist of everything you’ll want to bring with you to a car show, whether you’re bringing a Corvette or another classic model:

Things to Help Your Car Stand Out at a Car Show

Before we get to more of the basic things, there are the top things you can bring to draw in spectators and help your car stand out among the rest.

Awards From Previous Car Shows

Have you won any awards at previous car shows? Bring them! There’s no need to be shy — car spectators love seeing all you’ve done with your car.

Car Information

Make sure you know all there is to know about your car’s history and production background. Many car owners bring this information in a type of booklet or poster to display for spectators in case they took some time to walk around and aren’t standing by their car to tell them.

Restoration Pictures

If your Corvette or classic car has been through some serious restoration, bring some transformation pictures to show. You spent a lot of time, energy, and money on that process, so show it off! These types of pictures draw a lot of attention from car lovers, and can be great conversation starters.

Things to Keep Your Car Working and Looking Its Best at a Car Show

Having a dirty or disfunctional car at a car show can be frustrating, and will negatively impact how it shows, too. Make sure to bring these items to avoid any malfunctions:

Cleaning Supplies

Clean, shiny cars attract spectators. You’ll probably give yours a good wax before you leave for the day, but make sure to have some basic cleaning supplies like window cleaner, tire shine, and paper and microfiber towels to keep it looking good all day.

Antifreeze/Coolant

Classic cars can easily overheat, especially in hot weather conditions. Having some antifreeze or coolant on hand can help make sure you get your car back up and running when it’s time to leave.

Extra Set of Basic Tools

While you’ve done plenty of work to get your classic car up and running, when it comes to older machines, you just never know. The good news is, most issues you’re likely to run into at the car show are easy to fix and can be done with the most basic tools. Keep a small toolkit packed at all times.

The Car Show Necessities

There are a few basic items you should have with you at every car show. They’re important for registration and overall enjoyment, so definitely make them a priority.

  • Your car — A bit of a no-brainer, but we had to make sure it was on the list somewhere.
  • Cash — To pay for registration, entrance fees, and concession food. It’s not safe to assume an ATM will be available.
  • Camera —  To snap a few pictures of any cars, decal, or displays you think are cool.

Other Suggestions To Stay Comfortable at Your Upcoming Car Show

In order to look experienced and stay comfortable in the summer heat, there are a few clothing, accessories, and outdoor equipment items that are good to have on hand. Here’s a list of suggestions:

  • Merchandise from past shows
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Folding chairs
  • Canopy tent
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Stereo or speaker for music

  1. Some shows require them, but it’s never a bad idea to have a fire extinguisher with you. If it’s not your car, it might be one close by that you help save.
