The C5 Corvette lower outer side window seals (also known as belt mouldings, whiskers, or felts) take a beating from UV rays and can become brittle and subject to cracking. When this happens, water can intrude inside the door and detract from the appearance of the car in general.
Replace Your C5 Corvette Window Seals in 12 Steps
The good news is that these seals are easy to replace. Here’s how to install them:
Step 1
Open your C5 Corvette’s driver side door and lower the window. Then use a small flat-blade screwdriver to pry and push down on the locking tab to remove the small plastic cover behind the door handle.
Step 2
Remove the 2 screws behind the door handle using a T-27 Torx driver.
Step 3
Pry around and remove the cover on the door lever.
Step 4
Using a pry tool, pry around the door panel starting from the lower outboard door frame until it disengages from the door frame. Hold the door panel away from the door slightly.
Step 5
Disconnect the panel control console wiring connector behind the door panel and remove the door panel.
Step 6
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw located in the upper inboard edge of the door frame.
Step 7
Grab and slide the outer side window moulding toward the rear of the door to disengage it, then remove it from the door.
Step 8
The moulding on a C5 Corvette is held in place with a series of cone-shaped pins that slide into retaining slots in the door.
Step 9
Here are two of the retaining slots in the door. They are wider at the rear and narrow down toward the front to hold the moulding in snugly.
Step 10
Visually line up the pins on the moulding with the retainer slots and press them into place.
Step 11
When all the pins are seated, slide the moulding forward until the screw hole in it and the door line up.
Step 12
Replace the Phillips screw removed earlier to lock the moulding in place, then reassemble your door in the reverse order of assembly. Repeat these steps for the other door.

Since the outer sweep is on the outside of the window and it has only one screw which is accessible, does the interior door trim really need to be removed? From what I can tell it should not be necessary to remove the panel as the slots should be visible with it in place.
The inner seal is in the way if you don’t take the door skin off. I just replaced mine 20 minutes ago. And the top of the window is akready in the way. It takes 2 minutes to take the skin off.
How do you replace the inside window seals? I bought your kit and it has both the interior and exterior seals.
Interior felts were stapled in place.

You have to pry out the staples and install the new one with a rivet gun.
What size rivets? 3/16” diameter x 3/8” long?
I imagine that 1/8” diameter would be too small.
One rivet at each staple location I assume…
I will take photos and post a procedure as I cannot find details anywhere.
Will this procedure work on a 1992 C4 Vette?
It is the same basic procedure.
Thank you,
